An area type is a category for your bookable spaces, such as Padel court, Tennis court, or Reformer studio. Every area can belong to one. The type sets what is played there and how bookings of those spaces work, so you configure it once instead of on every court or room. Owners and admins manage area types.

When to use it

  • A multi-sport racket center creates Tennis court, Padel court, and Squash court types, each with its own sport, so members find the right court and each area offers the right surfaces.
  • A padel gym sets its Padel court type to Singles / doubles with only doubles ticked, so every booking is a four-player game.
  • A small-group studio sets Max Concurrent Bookings to 3 on its Small group room type, so three bookings can share the same time slot.
  • A gym with a members-only recovery room sets Who can book on its Recovery room type to a chosen audience, so only those people can book it online while staff can still book anyone in.

Where to find it

Go to Settings > Clubs > Area Types. The list shows each type’s Name, Slug, whether it is Bookable, its Price/Hour, and its Sport.
  • Click Add Area Type to create one.
  • Click a row, or use its Edit action, to change it.
  • Use Delete to remove it. Deleting cannot be undone.

Area type fields

Basic Information

  • Name - What staff and members see. Required.
  • Slug - Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only. It must be unique within your organization. Required.
  • Description - Optional.
  • Sports - The sports played in this type of space. The type’s sports also decide which surfaces and features the area form offers. See Areas.

Booking & Pricing

  • Available for booking - Areas of this type can be booked by members.
  • Default Price per Hour - The default hourly rate for areas of this type.
  • Revenue Account - The revenue account bookings of these areas book their income to. None (use default) uses your organization’s default revenue account.
  • Max Concurrent Bookings - How many bookings can share the same time slot for areas of this type, for example 3 for a small-group room. Defaults to 1, which makes each booking exclusive.
  • Who can book - Leave it empty and anyone can book areas of this type. Choose an audience and only those people can book them; staff can still book anyone in.

Players

How many people play on one booking:
  • Just the booker - One person per booking.
  • Singles / doubles - Tick Singles, Doubles, or both. At least one stays ticked.
  • A group - Up to a Max Players number you set (at least 2).

How area types show to members

On the booking flow, members see a booking card for each named area type. Spaces with no area type share a card named after your gym’s Name for areas booking label. See Organization.

Permissions

Area types live in Settings, so you need Settings access to open the page. Creating, editing, and deleting them is also checked against the Operations module at club scope. See Roles and permissions.

Tips

  • Create area types before areas. The type scopes the area’s surfaces and features and seeds its player setup.
  • Use one type per kind of space, not per gym. Area types are shared across all your gyms, so Padel court covers the padel courts at every location.
