The Impro integration connects 1Club to the Impro access control system each of your gyms already runs. 1Club keeps the gym’s own Impro installation up to date with who may enter which area and when, so a booking or check-in opens the right doors without staff programming cards by hand. An owner or admin sets up each gym once, and an installer connects the areas to their doors in Impro.

When to use it

Use it when a gym’s doors are already controlled by an on-site Impro installation and you want access to follow what members book. 1Club decides who qualifies and for how long, and Impro keeps doing what it does best: reading cards and driving the locks. Typical uses:
  • Court doors that open only for the booking - a padel gym syncs each court as an area, and players get in a little before their slot and out a little after, with no front desk.
  • A climbing gym with zoned access - the bouldering hall and the gym floor are separate areas, so a member booked into one doesn’t get into the other.
  • Several gyms, each with its own installation - each gym uses its own Impro installation with its own key, and access at one never leaks into another.

How it works

  • Areas become doors. You sync the gym’s areas to Impro. An installer then connects each area to its doors in Impro.
  • Access follows the schedule. A booking or a check-in opens the area for its own time window plus the access buffer.
  • People stay in step. A booking, check-in, or cancellation reaches Impro within moments. A complete sync of the people who currently qualify for access, their credentials, and their areas also runs every five minutes, and you can run it by hand.
  • It runs on your network. 1Club’s server reaches your Impro installation directly. The browser never calls Impro, and the API key is stored encrypted.

The access window

The Access buffer (minutes) sets how early a member can get in before a booking starts, and how long they keep access after it ends. It can be 15-120 minutes. A check-in grants access immediately, without waiting for the buffer before the start, and keeps it until the end of the booking plus the buffer.

Before you start

  • Impro is a paid-plan feature. On the Free plan and during the trial, its Activate and Configure buttons stay greyed out until you upgrade.
  • Configuring Impro requires the settings.manage.organization permission. Viewing its settings requires settings.read.organization.
  • Each gym needs its own Impro installation, its Installation URL, and an API key issued for that installation.
  • Each gym needs at least one active area. Area names must be distinct within the gym, because each area becomes a named area in Impro. See Areas.
  • A gym can use only one door system at a time. If a gym already uses another provider, such as WebLock or Salto KS, turn that one off for the gym first. Until you do, the Impro page says which provider the gym uses and Enable Impro for this club can’t be turned on.

Activate and set up a gym

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations and click Activate next to Impro, under Access control. 1Club activates Impro and opens its page. Once it is active, you reach the page from Configure under Active Integrations.
  2. On the Impro page, choose the gym under Club.
  3. Enter the gym’s Installation URL.
  4. Enter the API key. Use the key issued for this installation. Once a key is saved, leave the field blank to keep it.
  5. Set the Access buffer (minutes) (15-120).
  6. Click Test connection. The test uses the URL and key on screen, so you can try them before you save. It reports whether the connection works, or that it connected but some checks need attention.
  7. Turn on Enable Impro for this club and click Save. Save stays greyed out until the URL and key are filled in and the buffer is a whole number from 15 to 120.
Repeat for every gym that has its own Impro installation.

Sync areas

Under Areas, each area shows Synced or Needs sync.
  1. Click Sync areas to create the gym’s areas in Impro. The button is available once the gym’s connection is saved, and only while there are no unsaved changes.
  2. Ask your installer to connect each area to its doors in Impro.
Sync again whenever you add or rename an area. A new or renamed area opens no doors until it has been synced.

Sync people

Under People, 1Club shows Pending access updates while some changes still have to reach Impro. The people who currently qualify for access, their credentials, and their areas sync every five minutes on their own. Click Sync people to run the same sync for this gym straight away. It is available while Impro is on for the gym and there are no unsaved changes. While it runs, the page shows how many people have been processed. If some updates fail, 1Club retries them automatically. A warning asks you to check the installation’s connection and configuration in the meantime.

Credential technologies

Credential technologies sets what 1Club writes to Impro for each card, PIN, and QR code. Save the connection and test it first: only then does 1Club know what the installation can write. For access cards and PIN codes, pick a technology under Technology for Access card and Technology for PIN code from the ones the installation advertises, or leave it on Installation default. QR codes need no choice. If the technology uses a site code alongside the card number, a Facility code field appears. Enter it as digits. When the readers require one, you can’t save until it is filled in. The table below the pickers shows each technology the installation offers, with the credential it serves, its format, length, facility code, and Impro TagType.
The technologies must match the reader configuration in Impro, including the facility code. A card written with the wrong technology, or without the facility code its readers expect, does not open the door.
Some installations don’t publish their credential technologies. In that case 1Club sends credentials without one, exactly as before, and the page says so. If an installation stops advertising a technology you picked, the page asks you to choose another one or clear it. The credentials themselves are the members’ access cards, PIN codes, and QR codes in 1Club. See Access cards.

Turn Impro off for a gym or change its installation

Turning off Enable Impro for this club and saving withdraws access rather than just editing a setting. 1Club switches Impro off for the gym and starts access cleanup at the installation that still holds the access. To move a gym to a different installation URL or key:
  1. Turn off Enable Impro for this club, enter the new Installation URL or API key, and click Save. The page confirms that Impro is off for the gym while access is cleared, and the new values stay on screen while cleanup runs.
  2. Watch Pending access updates under People.
  3. Once no updates are pending, click Save again to apply the new connection.
You can’t change the URL or key while a people sync is running. Wait for it to finish first.

Deactivate

Deactivating removes Impro from every gym in your organization at once.
  1. Click Deactivate at the top of the Impro page.
  2. The confirmation, Deactivate Impro?, says that Impro stops working and its settings are deleted, so you’d need to set it up again to use it. Click Deactivate to confirm.
1Club first switches Impro off for every gym. It then withdraws the access the installations still hold, because their URL and key are the only way to reach them. Once nothing is held, it removes every gym’s installation and returns you to Settings > Integrations. If an installation can’t be reached, or a people sync is still running or has failed, deactivation is refused and the dialog says why. Impro stays off for every gym in the meantime. Make the installation reachable so 1Club can withdraw the access, wait for cleanup to finish, then deactivate again.

Troubleshooting

  • The page asks you to create an area first - the gym has no active area. Use Manage areas to add one.
  • The page says the gym uses another provider - only one door system can run per gym. Turn the other provider off for this gym, then turn on Enable Impro for this club.
  • An area opens no doors - check that it shows Synced. If it shows Needs sync, click Sync areas, then make sure your installer has connected it to its doors in Impro.
  • A member’s card doesn’t open the door - check Credential technologies against the reader configuration in Impro, including the facility code. A warning appears when some credentials could not be written to the installation.
  • Updates keep failing - check that 1Club’s server can still reach the Installation URL and that the API key is current. Use Test connection to confirm.
  • Integrations - every integration and how activation works.
  • Salto KS - cloud door access with a phone digital key.
  • WebLock - door access through WebLock (Valnes).
  • Areas - the areas that become doors in Impro.
  • Access cards - the cards, PINs, and QR codes members present at the door.
