# Events

> The Events section: bookable events, plus tournaments, matches, and ratings when competitions are on. Both are switched on and off under Settings > Events.

The **Events** section in the left rail holds one-off occasions your gym runs - an open day, a workshop, a social - and competitive play: tournaments, the matches they produce, and the ratings those matches move.

## What's in the section

| Tab | What it's for | Shown when |
| - | - | - |
| [Events](/events/events) | One-off ticketed events members book, with their own page, ticket types, promotion, and check-in. | **Show Events** is on (the default). |
| [Tournaments](/events/tournaments) | Knockout and round-robin draws run on an event, with entrants, seeds, and scores. | Competitions are on. |
| [Matches](/events/matches) | Every recorded match result, ranked or friendly, including matches from tournaments. | Competitions are on. |
| [Ratings](/events/matches#ratings-leaderboard) | The per-sport 1club Rating leaderboard for your members. | Competitions are on. |

When only the **Events** tab is available, the section opens straight on the events list, with no column of tabs beside it.

## Turn the section on or off

Both switches live on one page, **Settings** > **Events** (`/settings/events`):

* **Show Events** (in the **Events** card) - on by default. Turn it off to hide the whole **Events** section from the admin menu, competition tabs included.
* **Enable competition features** (in the **Competitions** card) - off by default. Turns on tournaments, matches, and 1club Rating. It needs **Show Events** on, because a tournament is drawn on an event, so it's disabled while Events is off.

Changing either switch requires the **settings.manage.organization** permission.

## Who sees what

The **Events** and **Tournaments** tabs follow the operations permissions: instructors see them at their own scope, and creating or managing events and tournaments needs **operations.manage.club**. **Matches** and **Ratings** follow the members permissions (**members.read.organization** to view), because a match and a rating belong to a member.
